Berlin SPD mayoral candidate Steffen Krach faces raids over alleged bribery
Police searched three properties in Berlin and Hannover as part of a bribery probe involving SPD mayoral hopeful Steffen Krach, which the party denies.
Investigators from the Staatsanwaltschaft Hannover carried out search operations at three sites in Berlin and Hannover as part of a corruption inquiry targeting Steffen Krach, the SPD's candidate for Berlin's governing mayor. Krach, who served as president of the Region Hannover between the end of 2021 and early 2026, is suspected of having accepted donations from a health-care operator in return for advocating for the operator in a public tender.
The alleged misconduct appears connected to the awarding of a parcel of land from the former KRH clinic complex in Lehrte. The SPD, through spokesperson Matthias Kuder, categorically denied the allegations. Krach has not commented publicly, and the case remains under investigation.
