Bersatu cautions that PN emergency council meeting may breach legal restrictions
Bersatu warned that the emergency Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council meeting could have serious legal consequences because the coalition’s registration has been cancelled.
Bersatu’s secretary-general, Mohamed Azmin Ali, issued a statement urging all parties to maintain the status quo following the Registrar of Societies’ decision to cancel Perikatan Nasional’s registration. He highlighted that an appeal was lodged at the Court of Appeal on the same day Takiyuddin Hassan sent out an invitation for an emergency PN Supreme Council meeting. Azmin argued that proceeding with the meeting under these circumstances could expose the coalition to serious legal ramifications.
He called for the meeting to be deferred until the appeal process is exhausted. The warning underscores the tension within the coalition as it navigates the legal challenge to its official status.
Why it matters
The warning signals potential legal disputes that could affect the stability of Malaysia's ruling coalition.
