BESIX Watpac and John Holland win contract to build Brisbane 2032 Olympic stadium

The Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority announced that the BESIX Watpac-John Holland joint venture has been chosen as the frontrunner to construct the proposed Brisbane Olympic stadium for the 2032 Games. The selection concludes the early-contractor-involvement phase that began on 31 October 2025, with the consortium beating a Built-Sacyr partnership. Authority chief executive Simon Crooks said the rigorous process tested buildability, sequencing, risk and opportunity, delivering the best-value contractor for the project.

BESIX Watpac and John Holland have previously delivered landmark venues such as Suncorp Stadium, the Gabba, Queensland Country Bank Stadium, the MCG’s Shane Warne Stand, Marvel Stadium, Sydney Football Stadium and the under-construction Penrith Stadium. Both CEOs, Mark Baker and Nick Miller, said their teams are prepared to begin work and create a stadium that will host AFL, cricket and the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic events. The authority highlighted that the stadium will boost Brisbane’s ability to attract major events while noting budget risks from rising costs and supply-chain pressures.
