Beyoncé disclosed a $1 million personal donation aimed at delivering food and housing supplies to the most affected communities in Chocó, Colombia, following the 7.4-magnitude earthquake on August 10. The release from Parkwood Entertainment highlighted the scale of the disaster, noting at least 312 fatalities, 29,000 homes destroyed and about 69,000 people displaced, according to UN humanitarian data. The singer called on the public to contribute through Food For the Poor and World Central Kitchen.
The gesture adds to a wave of musical philanthropy, with Shakira committing $1.25 million to rebuild schools and Karol G giving $1.2 million via her foundation. The Colombian band Morat also pledged a share of ticket sales from their Bogotá shows to assist victims.
