BFI suspends secretary general Pramod Kumar amid financial misconduct allegations
The Boxing Federation of India has placed secretary general Pramod Kumar on interim suspension pending an inquiry into alleged financial irregularities and abuse of authority.
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has temporarily removed its secretary general, Pramod Kumar, from duties while a probe examines accusations of financial mismanagement and overstepping his authority. President Ajay Singh ordered the suspension after finding that Kumar issued a broadcasting work order without finance committee approval and ignored inquiries into the abrupt cancellation of the Elite Men and Women Open Boxing Championship in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh.
Kumar is also accused of trying to call an unauthorized special general meeting to move a no-confidence motion against Singh. A separate dispute involves Pinnacle Broadcast Productions, which claims a Rs 1.5 crore billing for the World Boxing Finals Cup in Greater Noida, contradicting Kumar’s earlier statement that the company had pledged Rs 2 crore. The suspension follows Kumar’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging criminal intimidation by Singh and BFI Executive Director Col. Arun Malik, a claim Malik called unfounded. The order bars Kumar from performing any secretary-general functions, communicating on behalf of the federation, or accessing related records, and warns of further disciplinary action for any violations.
Why it matters
The suspension highlights governance challenges within India's boxing body and raises questions about financial oversight and internal power struggles.
