BGN fires Cirebon nutrition program manager after mass food poisoning of students
The National Nutrition Agency dismissed the head of a free meal unit in Cirebon after nearly 400 kindergarteners fell ill from quail-egg soup.
Nearly 400 kindergarten pupils in Cirebon city became sick after eating quail-egg soup provided by the government’s free nutrition program. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) sent a monitoring team to the SPPG Kalijaga 5 facility in Harjamukti district, where they discovered that the kitchen was re-processing food and ingredients sourced from outside vendors, a practice prohibited by the agency’s technical guidelines.
The breach was deemed a serious procedural violation. As a result, BGN applied the relevant employee rules and dismissed Yulian Septa Pratama, the head of the local nutrition fulfillment service unit. The agency said the action was taken to enforce compliance and protect student health. The incident highlights ongoing challenges in overseeing school meal programs.
