BHV seeks judicial recovery to address cash shortfall and revive flagship store
The Paris department store BHV filed for bankruptcy protection at the Lyon commercial court, citing insufficient cash to fund its turnaround plans.
Four months after acquiring the former Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville with three senior executives, Karl-Stéphane Cottendin filed for judicial recovery at the Lyon Tribunal des activités économiques. He explained that the department store remains operational and its employees are retained, but cash constraints prevent simultaneous progress on the store’s refurbishment and debt settlement. The filing is presented as a strategic step in a broader restructuring effort. Cottendin intends to submit a continuation plan and is counting on the court to exert pressure on Brookfield, the landlord, to help secure the needed financing for the revival.
Why it matters
BHV's bankruptcy filing could affect hundreds of jobs and the future of a historic Paris retail landmark.
