Big Bear bald eagle Jackie battles critical health crisis at Ventura County clinic

Jackie, the celebrated bald eagle from Big Bear who has successfully reared several eaglets alongside her partner Shadow, is currently listed as critically ill and unstable at the Ojai Raptor Center in Ventura County. She was taken into care three weeks ago after a confrontation with two other eagles and subsequent illness that left her severely anemic. Recent blood work showed her packed cell volume at 6% on Saturday, improving slightly to 9% on Sunday, yet remaining dangerously low.

The center noted that this modest increase does not change the seriousness of her situation. Veterinary staff are focusing exclusively on her welfare, tailoring each medical decision to her delicate health status. No further updates on her prognosis have been provided.
