Bihar adds roughly 1.4 million voters to roll after post-SIR update
Bihar’s electoral roll grew by about 1.4 million names since the post-special intensive revision, reaching 75.5 million registered voters.
According to officials attached to the Bihar Chief Electoral Officer’s office, the electoral roll was updated on October 1 to 75.5 million, an increase of roughly 1.4 million since the post-special intensive revision (SIR) published on September 30, 2025. During the year, 1.87 million individuals applied using Form 6, and 1.4 million of those applications were accepted, covering people re-entering the list, new voters and young first-timers.
The surge follows a pattern of higher enrolments in election years, as noted by a senior officer. Most applicants used the online ECI portal, while booth-level officers in Patna and Kishanganj reported processing several thousand applications and checking for duplicates with the Demographic Similar Entry system. The Election Commission has instructed the state to launch a campaign to identify and enrol first-time and left-out voters.
Why it matters
The sizable increase in Bihar’s voter list could influence upcoming Lok Sabha and state assembly elections.
