Bihar suspect arrested for two train killings, investigators probe further murders
Rohit Tiwari, a Bihar native, was arrested near the Bihar-Uttar Pradesh border for allegedly throwing two passengers from moving trains, and police are now probing his possible involvement in other killings.
The Government Railway Police arrested Rohit Tiwari, a Bhojpur-born man, at the Bihar-Uttar Pradesh border after a special team headed by Danapur Railway DSP Kanchan Raj linked him to two separate incidents of passengers being thrown from moving trains on the Ara-DDU line. Investigators allege Tiwari masqueraded as an STF or RPF official, targeting minors, laborers and drug-addicted passengers in the disabled carriage, demanding fines or “ticket” money and assaulting those who resisted.
He is accused of killing 21-year-old migrant laborer Nitin Kumar on September 19 after a dispute over a purported fine, and of murdering Kailash Kumar on September 9, both victims found bound with rope near tracks; Kailash’s companion Ritesh Kumar survived with injuries and identified the suspect. Tiwari allegedly used Nitin’s phone to extort ₹17,000 from his family, claiming the victim was detained for smoking. A Special Investigation Team, formed on ADG (Rail) Kamal Kishore Singh’s order, is also reviewing a similar unsolved case and has gathered CCTV footage showing the suspect loitering near disabled compartments. Tiwari, who has no fixed address and was previously arrested in 2024 for a similar offense, is now facing charges that include robbery and murder.
