Billionaire abortion doula backs former Ohio senator with sizable contributions

Rachel Dow, an heir to the Samson Investment Co. empire and a freelance abortion doula, has given $10,000 to former Sen. Sherrod Brown’s campaign as he seeks to return to the U.S. Senate against current Republican Sen. Jon Husted. According to the Federal Election Commission, Brown’s campaign has already drawn over $150,000 from donors and political action committees associated with abortion and transgender issues, including more than $46,000 from the Reproductive Freedom for All PAC and $32,000 from the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.

Pro-life group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, through communications director Kelsey Pritchard, argues that Brown’s self-characterization as a centrist is misleading, citing his voting history on federal abortion funding. The campaign also notes contributions from individuals tied to Planned Parenthood and a Colorado physician, Warren Hern, who has donated over $3,000. While Brown has not responded to inquiries, Husted also declined comment. Pro-life activists claim they will invest over $3 million in Ohio races to defeat Brown, emphasizing the high stakes of the upcoming November election.
