Billionaire hedge fund founder faces $6.2 billion divorce claim in New Jersey
Laura Overdeck is suing her husband, hedge-fund billionaire John Overdeck, for a $6.2 billion share of his wealth, while he has offered roughly $633 million.
In a Newark courtroom, Laura Overdeck has demanded a $6.2 billion portion of her husband John Overdeck’s fortune, asserting a 35% claim to his Two Sigma Investments stake and equal control of their family foundation. John Overdeck’s counsel counters that the hedge fund was established two years prior to their 2002 marriage and that the assets were earned before the union, offering $633 million (later described as $723 million tax-free) as a fair settlement.
Laura’s attorney, Theresa Lyons, alleges that Overdeck concealed assets for two decades and characterizes the offer as a low-ball attempt to retain control. The case, described as New Jersey’s largest contested divorce, also involves a lawsuit against the law firm Seward & Kissel for allegedly assisting in asset shielding. Outcomes may affect Two Sigma’s ownership balance, potentially shifting power toward co-founder David Siegel.
Why it matters
The settlement could reshape ownership and control of a major $80 billion hedge fund.
