Biographer warns Trump’s inflation problem could cripple his re-election hopes

Michael Wolff, the longtime biographer of Donald Trump, told listeners on the Inside Trump’s Head podcast that the president’s impulsive governing style since his 2025 return has produced few tangible achievements. Wolff emphasized that the most damaging issue for Trump is the persistent rise in consumer prices, which affects voters regardless of party affiliation. He noted that beef prices have risen 96 % since 2012, bread 46 %, and new-car prices 25 %.

Wolff blamed Trump’s own trade wars, the war with Iran and the Federal Reserve’s first rate hike since 2023 for adding to inflationary pressure. With roughly seven weeks until the midterms, he warned that the economic burden on Americans could erode Trump’s support, as voters look for someone to hold accountable. The White House did not respond to requests for comment.
