Bipartisan Senate Group Urges Trump to Cancel Diesel Deal with Russia
A cross-party group of U.S. senators sent a letter to the White House demanding President Trump rescind a newly signed diesel export agreement with Russia.
A bipartisan coalition of senators wrote to the White House asking President Trump to void a fresh agreement that allows Russia to export diesel to global markets. They contend the deal undermines the "Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026," which was passed by Congress and promptly signed by Trump to impose economic pressure on Russia and its supporters. The senators claim the arrangement will generate revenue for Moscow that could be used to sustain its war in Ukraine and deepen cooperation with China, Iran and North Korea.
While acknowledging the need to lower energy costs for American families, they argue the influx of Russian diesel will have little effect on domestic fuel prices. The letter was also copied to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Why it matters
The senators fear the diesel deal could fund Russia's war effort and weaken U.S. sanctions policy.
