Birthday cake in Nalasopara sparks food poisoning, three children in ICU
Eleven people, including seven children, were hospitalized for suspected food poisoning after eating a birthday cake in Nalasopara, with three children placed in intensive care.
At a birthday party in the Neelkantheshwar building in Takipada, Nalasopara East, a cake purchased from Chamunda Cake Shop triggered a suspected food-poisoning outbreak affecting eleven attendees, among them seven children and four women. Shortly after the cake was served, several children complained of chest burning and vomiting, prompting emergency transport to nearby Vijayalaxmi Hospital. Three of the children are being treated in the intensive care unit, while the remaining patients remain stable, according to Dr Vidya Sawant.
The children alleged that a dead lizard was discovered in the cake, a claim that police are investigating. Tulinj police collected cake samples for laboratory testing to determine the cause of the illness.
