Birthday cake prank leads to fatal stabbing in Jammu, police say
During a roadside birthday party in Jammu, a friend who smeared cake on the celebrant's face was stabbed to death after a dispute, police reported.
A birthday gathering on a roadside in Jammu turned violent when Pawan Nair, also known as “Sameer,” playfully smeared cake on the face of the birthday boy, Neeraj. The act sparked a heated exchange, and despite friends trying to calm the situation, Neeraj became angry and attacked Nair with a khokhri he was carrying, inflicting a fatal neck wound. Nair was rushed to Government Medical College Jammu by his friends John Sotra, Gaurav Singh and Sugandh Bhatti, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police at the nearby Janipur station filed a murder charge, detaining Neeraj, who is also called “Anshu,” and his brother Rishu. Investigators are working to locate the weapon used in the assault, and the deceased's body has been moved to the GMC mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
