BJP leadership convenes to craft social media response to opposition’s anti-SIR rally
BJP president Nitin Nabin led a Delhi meeting with Amit Shah and senior officials to devise a strategy against the opposition’s November 1 rally targeting the Special Intensive Revision.
Senior BJP officials gathered at the party’s Delhi headquarters on Sunday, with party president Nitin Nabin presiding over a strategy session that included Union Home Minister Amit Shah and national general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh. The core agenda was to formulate a coordinated social-media and grassroots outreach effort to neutralize the opposition’s November 1 rally targeting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral exercise.
According to a party insider, the Rashtra Chintan Samvaad, launched on October 22 and supervised by ministers Piyush Goyal and Kiren Rijiju together with senior leaders Sunil Bansal and Smriti Irani, is already engaging citizens across India to dispel what the BJP calls a fabricated narrative against bodies such as the election commission. Teams will hold discussions with students, professionals and homemakers to clarify why SIR is necessary and to allege that the Congress seeks to register illegal immigrants as voters.
The party also plans to circulate data on previous SIR implementations and recent election results in states where it was used, arguing that the opposition is attempting to undermine the Supreme Court and Election Commission to mask its own losses. This intensified communication drive reflects the BJP’s effort to pre-empt the anti-SIR theme that the Congress intends to make a central plank in upcoming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand.
Why it matters
The BJP’s coordinated push aims to shape public opinion on a key electoral reform ahead of multiple state elections.
