BJP official Ramesh Yadav held captive and robbed at Kanpur farmhouse
Two masked men tied up BJP Pichhda Morcha state secretary Ramesh Yadav at his Kanpur farmhouse, stealing cash, jewellery and a watch worth Rs 12 lakh.
BJP Pichhda Morcha state secretary Ramesh Yadav was seized by two masked assailants at his farmhouse in the Sen Paschimpara police-station area, roughly 20 km from Kanpur, on Monday night. After returning from Lucknow at about 12:30 am, Yadav was alone when his servant Abhay Rajput departed shortly before the intruders broke in, one brandishing a country-made pistol and the other holding a petrol bottle. They initially demanded Rs 2 crore, then took Rs 12 lakh from a locker along with a gold chain, ring and a Rado watch, before binding Yadav and leaving him with a towel and water bottle.
He cut himself free, called a guard who rescued him, and police were notified at 1:20 am. Senior officers Vipin Tada and Deependranath Chaudhary inspected the scene; CCTV captured two men in black fleeing, and investigators found shoe-friction marks suggesting entry via an adjoining tree. Eight police teams are now probing the case, questioning two suspects and tracing a route with a dog squad.
Why it matters
