Blackpool Council Keeps 20,000-Seat Arena Option Open in Regeneration Plan
Blackpool Council said it has not dismissed the idea of a 20,000-capacity arena as part of a £300 million redevelopment of the town.
Blackpool Council announced that it has not ruled out constructing a 20,000-seat arena within the £300 million Blackpool Central regeneration project. The venue, outlined in the independent Phoenix Arena Blackpool design, would use energy-efficient materials and host music, sport and exhibition events. The arena would sit on the former Central Railway Station site off the Golden Mile, alongside new public spaces, hotels, restaurants and a heritage quarter.
Council leaders said the next step is to appoint a new master developer after the original developer, Nikal Ltd., went into administration. Labour MP Chris Webb, who championed the arena campaign, highlighted the potential for 1,000 jobs and an extra 600,000 visitors annually.
