Humana disclosed that BlackRock is buying the majority stake held by Welsh Carson, Anderson & Stowe in its CenterWell senior primary-care clinic network, a transaction valued at $2.8 billion. CenterWell operates about 150 clinics that serve Medicare Advantage members. The insurer said the infusion of capital will sustain existing clinic operations, allow the addition of new locations, and provide resources for other strategic purchases over the next two years.
Welsh Carson, Anderson & Stowe has poured at least $1.8 billion into the venture since 2020, and this sale marks its planned exit after more than six years of involvement. The move signals a shift from private-equity ownership to a major asset-manager’s control of a growing healthcare delivery platform.
