Blizzard reveals Diablo 5 setting, new classes and procedural world at BlizzCon
Blizzard used its BlizzCon showcase to detail Diablo 5's storyline, gameplay mechanics and the first three playable classes.
At BlizzCon, Blizzard outlined the narrative of Diablo 5, which takes place one hundred years after Diablo 4. The Lord of Terror has seized Sanctuary and turned it into a launchpad for a heavenly invasion, forcing survivors into exile. Gameplay will revolve around a moving caravan rather than static towns, with the world reshaped by fear and generated anew on each playthrough.
The studio unveiled three initial classes: the shadow-hunting Demon Hunter, the fist-based Monk, and the newly added Plague Knight, described by developer Joe Shely as a walking embodiment of death that spreads and consumes disease for strength. Itemization will draw heavily from Diablo 2, reintroducing runes, rune words and larger equipment slots, while also bringing back set items and crafting inspired by Lord of Hatred. Diablo 5 is targeted for launch in spring 2029, roughly six years after Diablo 4.
