Bluecore Energy Secures $50 Million Seed Funding for Floating Nuclear Reactors
Bluecore Energy announced a $50 million seed round, just months after its $10 million pre-seed, to advance its floating small-modular nuclear reactors.
Bluecore Energy, a startup that builds small nuclear reactors on floating barges, closed an oversubscribed $50 million seed round only two months after emerging from stealth. The company was founded by Kofi Asante earlier this year and previously raised $10 million in a pre-seed round. Silverton Partners led the new financing, which also saw participation from prior investors Slauson & Co., Harlem Capital and Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, as well as newcomers such as Collab Capital, Hartbeat Ventures and angel investors linked to Tesla, Uber, Amazon and Google.
Based at the Port of Long Beach, Bluecore has already deployed two barges and is engaged with the Department of Transportation Maritime Division, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Coast Guard to certify its design. The capital will be used for further reactor development, regulatory approvals, nuclear fuel procurement and expanding the team. Asante highlighted supply-chain challenges and noted interest from ports, AI data centers and communities seeking clean energy and water.
Why it matters
The funding could accelerate deployment of mobile nuclear power, offering a new clean-energy option for ports and remote sites.
