Bluesky expands video uploads to 10 minutes with larger file size and faster speeds

Bluesky announced that users can now post videos up to 10 minutes long, increasing the previous three-minute restriction that was raised last year. Alongside the longer limit, the platform set a new maximum file size of 300 MB and claimed upload speeds are now two to three times faster. This upgrade aligns Bluesky with TikTok's 10-minute video ceiling and extends to other services built on the AT Protocol, including Bluescreen, Reelo and Skylight.

Competitors such as Meta-owned Threads allow five-minute videos, while X permits short free uploads but offers multi-hour uploads for paying subscribers. Bluesky also highlighted a new video editor to spur original content creation. The enhancement is intended to boost user engagement after data from Similarweb showed a decline of over 25% in active users year-over-year as of July.
