BMW Debrecen Plant Accelerates to Three-Shift Production Amid Strong iX3 Demand

Eight months after its launch, BMW's Debrecen facility has shifted to three-shift manufacturing, the fastest ramp-up for a new BMW Group plant. The change follows strong customer interest, with more than 100,000 iX3 orders placed across Europe and the 50,000th unit already produced. The plant, opened in October 2025, moved from a single shift to two shifts in March and now runs three shifts to meet the order backlog.

Around 5,000 employees are employed on the 400-hectare site, a growth the plant manager attributes to intensive recruitment and training. The factory currently produces the iX3 exclusively for global markets, offering two powertrain variants with starting prices of HUF 26,051,500 and HUF 29,901,500. Future capacity expansions are planned in Mexico and China, while a second Neue Klasse model is slated to start production later this fall.
