BN confirms Rauf stays in Tanjung Bidara while Akmal retains Merlimau seat
The Barisan Nasional (BN) slate keeps Rauf in Tanjung Bidara and Akmal as the candidate for Merlimau, while several incumbents were dropped.
Barisan Nasional released its candidate list, confirming that Rauf will remain the nominee for Tanjung Bidara and Akmal will defend the Merlimau constituency after he raised questions about possibly running in Serkam or Sungai Rambai. The roster shows a significant reshuffle, with over five incumbent legislators, such as former minister Sulaiman Ali in Lendu, omitted from the ticket. New candidates were highlighted, and several former BN members, including those from Gadek, Durian Tunggal, Pengkalan Batu, Ayer Molek, Serkam and Sungai Rambai, were also dropped.
Additionally, Rais Yasin was transferred from Paya Rumput to contest Sungai Udang, where Dr Aleef Yusof of Perikatan Nasional (PN) will stand. The changes affect other seats like Bemban, Bukit Katil, Ayer Keroh, Bandar Hilir, Kota Laksamana and Kesidang, all earmarked for PAS and its PN allies.
Why it matters
The candidate reshuffle could influence voter choices in key Malaysian constituencies ahead of the election.
