BN vows to stay in unity government until Parliament dissolves, then withdraw

At the 18th Annual General Assembly of Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the coalition's participation in the federal Madani unity government will continue only until the dissolution of the 15th Parliament, after which BN will no longer be part of the administration. He described the commitment as a promise to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and emphasized that joining the government does not mean BN has surrendered its own political stance, pointing to the possibility of contesting state polls separately, with Johor cited as an example.

Zahid, also deputy prime minister and Umno president, pledged to honour the agreement throughout the parliamentary term. In the same meeting, Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia president Datuk Seri R.S. Thanenthiran urged BN to leave the Madani Government immediately, alleging that BN leaders have faced repeated pressure, arrests and investigations not applied to their counterparts. He proposed that a resolution be taken to BN's top leadership for discussion, warning that staying in the coalition could tarnish BN's name, and positioned Makkal Sakti as a "bulwark" ready to support BN against such pressures.
