Boat capsizes beneath Golden Gate Bridge, leaving one dead and two critically injured
A vessel struck rocks under the Golden Gate Bridge early Thursday, capsizing and causing one fatality and two serious injuries.
Early Thursday morning, a boat collided with the rocks below the Golden Gate Bridge, causing it to overturn. The San Francisco Police Department’s Marine Unit arrived at the scene at approximately 6:10 a.m. and coordinated a large rescue operation involving several agencies. Three people were found aboard the capsized vessel and were rushed to a hospital in Marin County with severe injuries.
One of the passengers succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The identities of those involved have not been released. The SFPD Traffic Collision Investigation Unit Major Accident Investigation Team is now examining the factors that led to the crash.
