Bob Iger and Josh Kushner Acquire Lakers for Over $12 Billion
Bob Iger and Josh Kushner have bought the Los Angeles Lakers from Mark Walter for a record price exceeding $12 billion.
Mark Walter's tenure as the controlling shareholder of the Los Angeles Lakers ended after under a year, when he transferred ownership to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner for a reported sum above $12 billion. The deal eclipses the $10 billion valuation Walter paid in October. Iger, who served twice as Disney's CEO, and Kushner, founder of Thrive Capital and Oscar Health, expressed respect for Jerry and Jeanie Buss and pledged to build on the franchise's storied history.
Walter, also CEO of Guggenheim Partners and majority owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, is under a federal investigation for alleged tax fraud. The Lakers, now entering a new era highlighted by Luka Doncic after LeBron James departed for the Philadelphia 76ers, have won 11 championships under the Buss family, the most recent in 2020.
