Bob Myers Says LeBron Chose Toughest Route by Joining 76ers

LeBron James entered his 24th NBA season by signing a two-year, $8 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, joining stars Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey. Despite speculation that the move was a shortcut to a fifth championship, former Golden State Warriors executive Bob Myers asserted on a sports talk show that James deliberately chose the most difficult route by rejecting offers from his former teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat.

The president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment emphasized that James’ decision was driven solely by the desire to win, not by familiarity or personal ties. Knicks forward Josh Hart noted that James provides the 76ers with an elite scoring and facilitating option, forcing Eastern Conference rivals to devise new strategies. The upcoming schedule includes four meetings between the Knicks and 76ers, beginning with a season-opening game on Oct. 20 at Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks will raise their championship banner.
