Bobby Pulido's 2016 defense of a violent music video resurfaces amid Texas House race

In a 2016 interview, Latin Grammy winner Bobby Pulido defended Gerardo Ortiz’s controversial video “Fuiste Mía,” which showed a man shooting his lover’s partner, handcuffing the woman, and setting her car trunk ablaze. Pulido described the clip as a matter of artistic direction, noting he had worked on similarly suggestive material before. As Pulido runs as the Democratic nominee for Texas’s 15th Congressional District against Rep. Monica De La Cruz, the old remarks have resurfaced alongside other controversies, including explicit links posted on his X account and a 2018 benefit concert that featured a registered sex offender.

Pulido’s campaign frames the issue as a Republican-led smear effort, while the RNC’s spokesperson Zach Kraft called Pulido “morally rotten.” The race, set for Nov. 3, has become a focal point for debates over artistic freedom, past behavior, and alleged misconduct by both candidates.
