Body of 7-Year-Old Long Island Girl Exhumed as Caretakers Face Murder Charges
Investigators have exhumed the remains of Jor’Dynn Duncan, a 7-year-old from Long Island, while the three Bayport caretakers charged with her death await trial.
A Suffolk County court ordered the exhumation of Jor’Dynn Duncan’s body to allow additional examination, with her lawyer confirming the move was made to aid the district attorney’s investigation. The child, who had been placed in the home of Emily Kelly after a custody dispute, is alleged to have suffered relentless abuse for nearly a year at the hands of Kelly, her mother Barbara Renner, and Kelly’s daughter Elyssa Seymore.
Prosecutors say the abuse resulted in untreated sharp-force injuries, including close to 90 stab wounds, ultimately causing her death in December. District Attorney Ray Tierney characterized the conduct as “months of alleged systematic cruelty and sadistic abuse.” The defense contends that both Child Protective Services and the Bayport-Blue Point School District neglected to monitor the girl’s health and ignored her prolonged absence from school. All three defendants face second-degree murder charges along with assault and unlawful imprisonment counts.
Why it matters
The case highlights possible failures in child-protective oversight and school reporting, raising concerns about systemic safeguards for vulnerable children.
