On the basis of a criminal investigation, the Înalta Curte de Casație și Justiție has sent Bogdan Peșchir to trial for a continuous offense of voter bribery, counting 874 material acts. Peșchir, identified as the main financial backer of Călin Georgescu’s campaign, is accused of orchestrating a multi-layered influence operation. First, he allegedly hired prominent TikTok influencers to promote the candidate during extended live sessions, shaping discussion topics to direct voter preferences.
Second, he is said to have distributed gifts and cryptocurrency to supporters during online events, creating an expectation of reward for voting a certain way. Third, the indictment claims he made direct bank transfers to individuals who agreed to persuade their personal networks to vote for the candidate. The court has ordered the trial to proceed while allowing Peșchir to remain free pending the outcome.
