Bolivian police detain Argentine political adviser linked to hotel shooting

Bolivian authorities arrested Argentine consultant Fernando Cerimedo, an adviser to President Rodrigo Paz, on suspicion of involvement in the shooting of analyst Nadia Beller.

Bolivian police detained Argentine consultant Fernando Cerimedo at Santa Cruz airport as he prepared to travel to Buenos Aires. Cerimedo, an adviser to President Rodrigo Paz and a key digital strategist for President Javier Milei, is being investigated for a possible role in the shooting of political commentator Nadia Beller, who was hit three times at a hotel and taken to a medical center. Authorities have not disclosed Beller's health status.

Police commander David Gomez mentioned a hypothesis that the incident may stem from a romantic dispute between the two, noting that one outlet's reports describe Beller as Cerimedo's former partner. The attackers reportedly arrived disguised as food delivery workers and escaped on a motorcycle. Cerimedo had previously drawn criticism from Bolivia's vice presidency for a social-media post, an allegation he rejected. He has also been linked to former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

Why it matters

The arrest ties a foreign political adviser to a violent incident, raising concerns about cross-border political influence and security in Bolivia.
