A fraud investigation led police to a house on Becket Road in Worle, where a 70-year-old suspect was taken into custody. Searchers uncovered “suspicious substances and items,” triggering the arrival of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit around 7.30 pm. The unit examined and destroyed the material, and a 100-metre safety cordon was established.
Authorities ordered 153 households to evacuate, relocating them to The Campus community centre and offering assistance through North Somerset Council and the NHS. The cordon is expected to remain in place overnight while an in-depth search proceeds, and further updates are planned for Thursday.
