Bomb squad seals off Oceanside street after biohazard-marked containers discovered
A bomb squad locked down a section of Vandegrift Boulevard in Oceanside after cans and bottles bearing biohazard warnings and "top secret" labels were found.
In the North Valley neighborhood of Oceanside, a stash of bottles and cans marked with biohazard symbols and the words "top secret" prompted a bomb squad response on Sunday morning. Hazmat teams from the Oceanside Fire Department arrived first, followed by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit to assess any potential danger. Authorities cordoned off Vandegrift Boulevard between Castellanos Drive and East Parker Street and ordered shelter-in-place for residents on Arthur Avenue and El Mirlo Drive.
The investigation later indicated no explosive hazard, though officials have not confirmed whether the containers hold hazardous substances. No injuries were reported, and the shelter-in-place order has been lifted, though the road remains closed pending further clearance.
