Bombay High Court overturns Thane court bail for three accused in ₹40 lakh bribery case
The Bombay High Court set aside a Thane special court's bail order for three men accused of a ₹40 lakh bribery, sending them back into CBI custody.
In a reversal of a Thane special court decision, the Bombay High Court nullified bail for three individuals linked to an alleged ₹40 lakh bribe. The high court, acting on a CBI revision application, determined that the arrests had not followed required legal procedures and ordered the accused—additional commissioner Vinay Kantheti, superintendent Rakesh Sinha, and private customs house agent Narinder Rajput—to stay in CBI custody for two days.
The court noted that arrest grounds had been communicated to family members and lawyers. Following the order, Sinha and Rajput were taken for custodial interrogation, but officials reported they were unable to locate Kantheti. The CBI’s anti-corruption branch continues its investigation into the case, which originated from a complaint alleging illegal gratification related to a stone-quarrying business.
