Bon Secours Mercy Health pulls in over $1 billion from Ensemble Health Partners stake

Bon Secours Mercy Health received more than $1 billion this year from its minority interest in Ensemble Health Partners, including a $671 million payment and a $427 million distribution.

The Cincinnati-based nonprofit health system continues to earn cash from its reduced ownership of billing firm Ensemble Health Partners. A recent private-equity partnership generated a $671 million payment, adding to a $427 million payout reported earlier in February. Both figures appear in Bon Secours Mercy’s second-quarter financial statements ending June 30.

Why it matters

The payouts show how a nonprofit health system can generate substantial revenue from private-equity-linked assets.
