Border czar Tom Homan called Angie Nixon’s allegation that ICE targets Black Americans as “ridiculous,” insisting enforcement is based on immigration status, not skin color.
Tom Homan, the administration’s border czar, flatly rejected Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon’s claim that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents racially profile Black Americans, describing the assertion as “ridiculous.” Speaking on the television program “Saturday in America,” Homan said ICE does not arrest people based on skin color and highlighted that he had overseen deportations to “180 countries” last year, treating all illegal residents equally.
Nixon, who recently secured the Democratic primary, listed dismantling ICE and closing detention centers among her platform priorities, and on a podcast she accused ICE of acting as a “weaponized paramilitary force” targeting Black communities. The Department of Homeland Security supported Homan’s remarks, labeling Nixon’s statements “disgusting, reckless and categorically FALSE.” Homan also blamed sanctuary city policies for increasing risks to officers and immigrants, referencing the July shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston during an ICE arrest attempt. He argued that such policies release public-safety threats back into communities and endanger both law-enforcement personnel and undocumented individuals.
