Border police seize eight kilograms of gold hidden in car console near Passau

Border police discovered about eight kilograms of gold hidden in a car's central console during a checkpoint on Autobahn 3 near Passau and seized it.

During a routine traffic stop on Autobahn 3 close to Passau, Grenzpolizei officers uncovered a professionally installed compartment in the vehicle’s centre console containing roughly eight kilograms of gold. The 38-year-old driver could not prove legitimate ownership, prompting suspicion of money-laundering.
