The Boroondara Eagles Football Club reported that an under-12 girls’ match at Caloola Reserve in Oakleigh was stopped at halftime so an under-11 boys’ side could take over the field. After a 40-minute delay, the girls were moved to an alternative pitch that was waterlogged and unsafe, prompting the abandonment of the game. The incident left a young female coach in tears and sparked questions from players and parents about the disparity in treatment compared with the boys’ fixture.
The club refused to play a rescheduled match against Monash City Villarreal FC and has asked Football Victoria to examine whether the actions breached gender-discrimination policies. Football Victoria said it was handling the matter through its formal Member Protection process and is reviewing match-day decision protocols. The Eagles have also reported the case to Football Australia’s integrity unit and the City of Monash, reaffirming their commitment to respectful participation and the growth of women’s and girls’ football.
