Bosnian Islamic Authority Decries Media and Political Assaults, Vows Legal Action

The Islamic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a strong condemnation of recent media and political assaults directed at its muftis and imams, describing them as coordinated attempts to undermine their authority. The Public Relations Office of the Rijaset highlighted that these attacks constitute an affront to religious freedom and an attack on the community’s symbols. While acknowledging that religious officials can be subject to legitimate criticism, the statement argued that one outlet wave goes beyond critique and aims to silence them.

The community warned that such pressure hampers the ability of muftis and imams to fulfill their duties. It announced that all available legal mechanisms will be employed to safeguard their dignity and mission in the public sphere. The declaration underscores the tension between political actors, media outlets, and religious institutions in the country.
