Both parties vie for the influential Make America Healthy Again voting bloc ahead of midterms
The Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) coalition, credited with helping Republicans win in 2024, is now being courted by Democrats and Republicans as a key factor in the upcoming midterm elections.
The Make America Healthy Again movement, which played a decisive role in the 2024 election after Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s endorsement of Donald Trump, is now a battleground for both parties ahead of the midterms. Health-focused parents, many dealing with conditions like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and childhood anxiety, form the core of the MAHA base, according to podcaster Alex Clark. Democrats such as Abdul El-Sayed have launched a "Build a Healthier America" platform promising stricter food and water regulations, while prominent liberals like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have begun addressing similar concerns.
Conservative voices, including Clare Ath of Vita et Terra and Heritage Action’s Dan West, caution that Democratic proposals may carry broader socialist policies that could alienate MAHA voters. MAHA Action, led by Tony Lyons, has already endorsed fifteen Republican congressional candidates and two Republican governors, emphasizing the need to keep the coalition engaged through the election cycle.
