Boyfriend Arrested for Pushing Girlfriend into 1,000-Foot Valley After Marriage Arranged Elsewhere

Police have detained Sripad Vadar for allegedly pushing his 23-year-old girlfriend, engineering student Tarrannum Naik, into a deep valley in Kolhapur after her family fixed her a different marriage.

A 23-year-old engineering student, Tarrannum Naik, was discovered dead at the base of a steep valley near Naikwadi waterfall in Bhudargad taluka, Kolhapur district. Her boyfriend, 25-year-old Sripad Vadar, who works with his contractor brother, reported the incident as a failed suicide pact but later faced arrest when police uncovered contradictions in his story. Examination of the couple’s chat history revealed Vadar’s resentment over Naik’s family arranging her marriage to another man, leading investigators to invoke murder provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Authorities have seized both mobile devices and await a post-mortem report, expected within a few days. A local court remanded Vadar for five days of police custody, while residents of Gargoti staged protests demanding a swift trial. Naik’s funeral rites were performed in her native Patgaon village.
