BPCL Q2 profit drops 21.5% despite revenue surge and higher refinery output

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd reported a 21.5% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to ₹4,863 crore for Q2 FY27, while its revenue grew 30% and refinery throughput rose 6%.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd’s Q2 FY27 consolidated net profit fell 21.5% YoY to ₹4,863.05 crore, reflecting suppressed marketing margins on certain petroleum products. Despite the profit dip, the company’s revenue from operations surged 30% YoY to ₹1.58 lakh crore, aided by a 6% rise in refinery throughput to 10.41 million tonnes and a 6.33% increase in domestic sales. The quarter came after a hefty ₹1,873 crore loss in Q1 FY27, caused by high energy prices and postponed fuel price adjustments.

BPCL highlighted an under-recovery on LPG sales of ₹17,334.40 crore, with the oil ministry approving ₹7,594 crore in compensation to be disbursed in equal monthly installments starting November 2025. Export volumes jumped 64%, underscoring a mixed performance across its operations.

Why it matters

The earnings dip shows how volatile fuel pricing and margin pressure can affect India's major state oil firm, impacting the broader energy market.
