Brașov-Făgăraș motorway cleared for tender after three-year delay
The Brașov-Făgăraș highway has cleared the final bureaucratic stage and is set to launch a construction tender following the issuance of environmental and other permits.
After the environmental agreement was issued in June, the Brașov-Făgăraș motorway has passed the final administrative hurdles and is preparing for a construction tender, according to the press agency Rador. The 49.3-km stretch, now part of the A13 corridor, includes three junctions at Codlea South, Codlea North and Șercaia, as well as 49 bridges, viaducts and three tunnels totaling 800 m to accommodate wildlife. Delays of more than three years stem from feasibility studies that were only completed in spring, pushing the schedule back. Meanwhile, the Sibiu-Făgăraș segment, divided into four lots and awarded to Turkish contractor Makyol, is under construction, with Lots 2 and 3 the most advanced and Lot 1 just starting, causing temporary traffic restrictions near Boița. Officials expect the four Sibiu-Făgăraș lots to open progressively from October 2027 to November 2028 and are optimistic the timelines could be accelerated.
