Brazil police rescue nurse held captive and assaulted by former partner
Military police in Águas Lindas de Goiás freed 24-year-old nurse Emiliane Carvalho after she was found gagged, chained to a bed and reportedly raped by her ex-partner.
On Friday, Military Police entered a dilapidated residence in Águas Lindas de Goiás after responding to a woman's cries. They found 24-year-old nursing technician Emiliane Tamara Nunes Carvalho bound to a bed, gagged and wearing a gas mask, with her limbs and neck restrained by ropes, handcuffs and a chain. Police say her former partner, Ailton Rodrigues de Souza, abducted her on Aug. 17, allegedly raping and drugging her while she remained captive for five days.
Food and other items found at the scene indicated he planned to hold her longer. Carvalho was taken to a hospital, later discharged, and has described ongoing pain and dizziness. She has publicly shared her ordeal to raise awareness of domestic abuse, noting she ended the relationship in Dec. 2025 after five years of marriage.
