Brazilian Businesswoman Dies After Eight-Hour Multi-Procedure Cosmetic Surgery

Andreia Vieira Gaspar, a 51-year-old Brazilian businesswoman who had lived in Spain for five years, returned to Brazil for a costly cosmetic makeover at Hospital Ankar in Goiânia. The eight-hour operation combined six procedures—deep-plane facelift, blepharoplasty, brow lift, neck liposuction, chin genioplasty and nanofat injections—totaling roughly £17,000. Hours after the surgery, Gaspar experienced extreme pain, tongue swelling that prevented her from closing her mouth, and respiratory distress, according to her sister Djiane Vieira.

The family alleges the hospital lacked an intensive-care unit and an ambulance, and that emergency staff could not revive her. A medical report cited acute thrombosis and pulmonary infarction as the cause of death, leading the Goiás Public Prosecutor’s Office to request a police investigation for possible involuntary manslaughter. Dr. Lessandro Martins expressed sympathy for the family but asserted the care provided was appropriate, while Hospital Ankar’s lawyer Cristiene Pereira Couto said emergency measures were promptly applied.
