Victor Bernardo, a Brazilian freesurfer, and his wife Johnni Bufkin Bernardo survived a serious car accident in Southern California on August 16, but remain in intensive care after multiple emergency surgeries.

On August 16, Victor Bernardo, a 28-year-old Brazilian freesurfer, and his wife Johnni Bufkin Bernardo were injured in a severe car crash in Southern California, a incident described by filmmaker Logan Dulien as potentially fatal. Emergency responders airlifted Victor to a hospital and transported Johnni by ambulance; both are now in intensive care after undergoing multiple surgeries. A GoFundMe page has been set up to offset their medical bills, rent, car payments, food, and pet care while they are unable to work.

The exact site and circumstances of the accident have been kept private at the couple's request. Organizers of the fundraiser note that the pair may need up to a year away from work and will likely face additional surgeries and long-term rehab. The surfing community has pledged support, emphasizing the financial and emotional assistance needed during their prolonged recovery.
