Brazilian fugitive confesses to 80 killings after capture disguised as a woman

After a two-day police operation in the municipality of Mulungu, Jorlan Alves da Silva, 33, was captured while disguised in women's attire and holding a two-year-old child. During interrogation, he asserted that he had murdered 80 individuals, a number far higher than the 16 cases police had previously connected to him. The earlier killings span three months following his May release from prison and involve victims such as two shopkeepers in Rio Tinto, Paraiba.

Police chief Douglas Garcia described the confession as "very significant" and suggested the true count is likely close to the claimed figure. Investigators are also examining Alves da Silva's claim that his first homicide occurred at age 13 and are trying to determine the child's identity and how the toddler came to be with the suspect. The man is suspected of belonging to a Rio de Janeiro-origin criminal faction operating in Paraiba, and five arrest warrants, including four for aggravated murder, were issued before his capture.
