Breuillard Beats Illness to Capture Le Tour de Langkawi’s Queen Stage
Nicolas Breuillard, fighting illness and doubt, won Stage 5 of the Le Tour de Langkawi, finishing eight seconds ahead of Josh Burnett.
Nicolas Breuillard arrived in Malaysia battling a virus and waning confidence, yet he seized the Queen Stage of the Le Tour de Langkawi, a 125.7-km climb from Tapah to Genting Highlands. Riding for TotalEnergies, he finished the stage in 3 hours 11 minutes 26 seconds, eight seconds clear of Josh Burnett of Burgos-Burpellet-BH, while overall leader Lennart Jasch took third. Breuillard credited teammate Valentin Retailleau for helping create a decisive gap early in the race and praised his squad’s belief in him.
The triumph also satisfies his ambition to win a race this year before moving to WorldTeam XDS Astana next season. After five stages, Lennart Jasch still wears the Orange Jersey, with Abel Balderstone and Jan Castellon completing the podium.
